The National Institute of Houseworkers was set up in 1946 as a result of the Report on Post War Organisation of Private Domestic Employment June 1945. The institute was established to supervise the training and placing of women and girls in approved private domestic employment; to award certificates of efficiency; and to regulate minimum wages and working conditions for certified workers placed in approved employment.
